About Me

Greetings! My name is Jeremy Peters. I graduated with a Sc. B. in Materials Science from Brown University, and an M. S. in Materials Engineering from N.C. State University. I offer tutoring in:

• Arithmetic: operations of real (i.e. integer, rational, and irrational) numbers.

• Geometry: operations of one, two, and three-dimensional objects

• Algebra:  operations of polynomial expressions and their plotted functions

Calculus: operations of function derivatives and integrals

Statistics: operations of univariate and bivariate data

My goal is to help people become conversant in the language of mathematics. As an engineer by training, I use math primarily in modeling: the mathematical representation of a real world object or process in order to describe, analyze, or predict its behavior. For example, a basketball field goal percentage models a player’s shooting accuracy, and can be used to predict how well she will do in the future.

Modeling is the bridge between the 'how' and the 'why' of many math concepts that can make conceptual understanding initially difficult. I believe this modeling-based approach can serve as a useful complement to a primary math instructor.  In addition, since there is considerable mathematical overlap, I offer physics and chemistry tutoring as well.
